Baltimore, Md. - Sophomore Carolyn Kennington and junior Kate Gilfillan were named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively as announced by the conference office Monday. The duo helped Loyola improve to 10-3 overall and undefeated in conference play at 6-0.
It was the first MAAC honor this season for Kennington who was named the conference's Rookie of the Year in 2003. This week, Kennington tallied two goals and two assists in wins over Saint Peter's, 2-0 and Manhattan, 3-0. She added the insurance goal over the Pea Hens and had a hand in all three goals over the Jaspers. Kennington is second on the team in scoring this season with eight goals and five assists and ranks fourth overall in the MAAC in scoring.
Gilfillan earned her first conference nod of the season as the Defensive Player of the Week. She is currently undefeated in goal for the Greyhounds having started in the last seven contests. This week, Gilfillan and the Loyola defense held two opponents scoreless while recording three saves. In her seven starts in goal this season the Greyhounds have allowed just three goals while scoring 19 of their own. Gilfillan currently holds a .41 goals against average and a save percentage of .864.
The Greyhounds take a break from conference action on Wednesday, October 20 by hosting American at 2:00. Loyola will then hit the road to face MAAC opponent Rider on Saturday, October 23.
