Haracic Named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week

Oct. 3, 2011

EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland women's soccer goalkeeper Didi Haracic has been named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday.

Haracic earned her second-straight shutout, making four saves in a, 3-0, win over Rider on Saturday in Loyola's MAAC-opening match. Haracic made one spectacular stop, diving to her left to save a header from Abi Cottam in the 38th minute to keep the match scoreless. Cottam entered the match as the leading scorer in the MAAC with eight goals.

"Didi was a difference maker," said Vettori. "She made one huge save and did well with her distribution. She doesn't make that stop and it changes the whole dynamic of the match. It was a big lift for us."

The award is the first MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honor in Haracic's career. She was named MAAC Rookie of the Week once in 2010. She is the only goalkeeper in the conference not to allow a goal on opening weekend.

The Greyhounds are on the road this weekend as they take on Canisius on Friday night and Niagara on Sunday.
