EDISON, N.J. - Loyola College goalkeeper Brittany Henderson earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors today for her stellar play over the weekend in two Greyhounds wins.
Henderson was at her best in the final minute of play of Loyola's 2-1 victory on Friday over 28th-ranked Villanova.
The Wildcats had a corner kick attempt with less than 10 seconds to play, but Henderson knocked the ball out to the top of the box. Erin Ryan then gained possession for Villanova, took a step and blasted a ball from about 15 yards out.
Henderson made a full-extension, one-handed save to punch the ball away from harm with a second remaining on the clock, saving the game for Loyola.
She then led the Loyola defense to its first shutout of the season, a 1-0 decision on Sunday against American, tallying two saves in the victory.
Henderson and the Greyhounds open MAAC action on Friday, October 3, against Iona at 4:30 p.m.
