CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland women's soccer freshman Jourdan Ziff was named the Corvias Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league office announced
Ziff recorded an assist on Loyola's game-tying goal against the United States Naval Academy on Saturday night in Annapolis, Maryland.
With only minutes remaining in regulation, the Greyhounds trailed the Midshipmen, 2-1, but Ziff and Loyola's offense continued to pressure the Mids, and the Greyhounds were awarded a corner kick in the 88th minute. The attempt sailed into the box but was denied by Navy's defense. Ziff collected the ball on the endline and sent it to out to senior Rosy Hayes outside the box. Hayes lofted the ball back inside the box where junior Nicole Wahlig headed it in to tie the game, 2-2.
This marks the first weekly award for Ziff and Loyola's first rookie award since junior Morgan Crable earned the honor on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013.
Loyola (3-5-1 overall, 1-0-1 Patriot League) returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts American University in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
