EDISON, N.J. - For the second time in three weeks, Loyola goalkeeper Brittany Henderson earned Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for her exemplary play on the field.
This week, Henderson shared the award with Manhattan College goalkeeper Alicia DeFino. Henderson was the sole recipient of the award for the week of September 3-9.
Henderson made eight saves in Loyola's 3-0 shutout of the University of Richmond on Sunday. One of her best saves came on a penalty kick attempt by the Spiders with just seconds remaining before halftime.
The Commack, N.Y., native currently leads the conference in saves (56) and saves per game (8.00). She also has stopped the highest percentage of shots in the MAAC, .848, thus far in 2007.
The award marks the third time this season a Loyola women's soccer player has been honored by the conference. In addition to Henderson's first award, Lina Staropoli was named Rookie of the Week for September 10-16.
