Loyola Freshman Staropoli Named MAAC Rookie of the Week

Sept. 17, 2007

EDISON, N.J. - Loyola College freshman midfielder Lina Staropoli was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for September 10-16, 2007.

Staropoli scored her first collegiate points last weekend in two matches at the Colorado College Invitational.

In Friday's game against No. 25 Marquette University, Staropoli struck a corner kick into the box that Heather Cooke finished for Loyola's only goal in 3-1 loss.

The Raritan, N.J., native then scored her first collegiate goal in the 77th minute of the Greyhounds' 2-1 loss to Colorado College on Sunday.

Staropoli is the first Loyola women's soccer student-athlete to earn MAAC Rookie of the Week honors and the second player to be honored by the conference in its weekly awards this season. Goalkeeper Brittany Henderson was last week's MAAC Defensive Player of the Week.

The Greyhounds return to action on Sunday, September 23, when they travel south to play at the University of Richmond. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
