CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Another day, another award for Loyola College sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Henderson.
Today, she was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for September 3-9, 2007, after her outstanding performances last weekend at the Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational.
Henderson made 19 total saves and allowed only two goals, as the Greyhounds (1-2-1) defeated then-No. 24 Wake Forest, 2-1, and tied Virginia Tech, 1-1.
On Monday, Henderson was honored as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Tuesday, she was named to the SoccerBuzz Magazine Elite Team of the Week.
Against Wake Forest, the Commack, N.Y., native, made nine saves, two coming from point-blank range with under five minutes to play. She followed that outstanding performance with a 10-save tally in the tie versus Virginia Tech.
Henderson again stopped two critical, close shots, these coming in the second overtime period, to preserve the tie for the Greyhounds.
This week, Henderson and her teammates travel to Colorado Springs for the Colorado College Invitational. Loyola plays No. 25 Marquette in the first match on Friday, September 14, at 1:30 p.m. (MDT). The Greyhounds then face the host Tigers on Sunday, September 16, at 1:30 p.m. (MDT).
