BALTIMORE - Loyola College sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Henderson earned another accolade today for her outstanding performances last weekend at the Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational.
She was named to the SoccerBuzz Magazine Elite Team of the Week after registering 19 saves in two matches at the tournament. Yesterday, the Commack, N.Y., native earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Henderson stopped nine shots against then-No. 24 ranked Wake Forest, including two from point-blank range in the final five minutes, to lead the Greyhounds to a 2-1 victory.
She was just as good two days later as Loyola tied Virginia Tech, 1-1. Henderson made 10 saves against the Hokies, two in the second overtime period to preserve the tie.
Henderson was one of two goalkeepers - joining Ohio State's Lauren Robertson - on the 18-player Team of the Week.
The Greyhounds (1-2-1) also reentered SoccerBuzz's regional rankings after their solid weekend performances. Loyola is currently tied for 15th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, the slot where they started the season in the publication's preseason poll.
Loyola travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend of the Colorado College Invitational. The Greyhounds take on No. 25 Marquette on Friday, September 14, at 1:30 p.m. (MDT), and the host Tigers on Sunday, September 16, at 1:30 p.m. (MDT).
