Loyola Hosts Two Game Homestand At Ridley

• The Loyola University Maryland women’s soccer team hosts two home games this weekend at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Greyhounds first take on the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. followed by a 4 p.m. match against St. John’s on Sunday, Aug. 28.

Loyola Quick Hits (2-0-0, 0-0-0)

• Loyola returns to action at Ridley Athletic Complex after a strong opening weekend, defeating both Mount St. Mary’s and UMBC, the program’s first 2-0 start to a season since 2009.
• Sophomore midfielder Julianna Cabrera was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after charting the first multi-goal game of her career against Mount St. Mary’s. She is currently tied for first in the Patriot League in goals (2) and second in points (4).
• Loyola swept crosstown rival UMBC in a 2-0 victory on Sunday, Aug. 21, goalkeeper Sumer Rahe’s first shutout of her career, which earned her an honorable mention honor from the Patriot League.
• The Greyhounds are coming off a 2015 season where they finished 6-10-2 overall and 4-4-1 in Patriot League play.
• Head coach Naomi Meiburger returns for her third season on the Greyhounds’ sidelines, after guiding the team to their first-ever Patriot League Tournament appearences in the past two seasons.

About Saint Francis (Pa.) (0-2-0, 0-0-0)

Saint Francis opened its season with a two-game homestand against George Washington (8/19) and Bucknell (8/21). The Red Flash suffered 1-0 losses in both contests.
The 2015 season saw the Red Flash advancing to the Northeast Conference Tournament semifinals, where they lost to Fairleigh Dickinson. Saint Francis ended their season 4-13-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the NEC.
The Greyhounds are 2-0-0 against the Red Flash.
Loyola and Saint Francis first met in 1992 and did not meet again until the 2015 season, when the
Greyhounds won 2-1.

About St. John’s (2-0-0, 0-0-0)

• St. John’s started their season with two shutout wins over Central Connecticut State University and Albany.
• Alexis Urbanski was named Big East Defensive Player of the Week for her performances against CCSU and Albany, while Diana Poulin found a spot on the conference’s weekly honor roll.
• Poulin recorded the 33rd victory of her career against CCSU, holding an opponent scoreless for the 21st time in her career and becoming the Red Storm’s all-time leader in wins by a goalkeeper.
• This will be the first meeting between the Red Storm and the Greyhounds.
