Women's Soccer Picked Fourth In Preseason Poll

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the preseason Patriot League poll, released today by the league office.

The preseason poll was voted on by all ten league coaches and sports information directors.

The Greyhounds, who won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title in 2012, finished with 101 total votes. Fellow Patriot League newcomer, Boston University took the top spot with 154 votes, and 12 first-place nods. Navy and Colgate finished second and third, respectively, with four first-place votes each.  Army finished right behind the Greyhounds, with 98 points, while Lehigh came in sixth with 73 votes. Bucknell was selected seventh, totaling 69 votes, followed by American (47), Holy Cross (47), and Lafayette (31).

Loyola went 12-6-4 last season, entering the MAAC Championships at the No. 3 seed. The Greyhounds went on to defeat the Fairfield Stags in the semifinals, and the No. 1 seed Marist College Red Foxes in the championship title match. Loyola made its eighth appearance in the NCAA College Cup, as they traveled to Durham, N.C, to take on head coach Katherine Remy Vettori's alma mater, the Duke Blue Devils.

Loyola kicks off the 2013 campaign, Friday, August 23, as the Greyhounds travel north on York Road to take on Towson University for a 4 p.m. start time.

The Patriot League Championships begin with quarterfinal action on Tuesday, November 5. The top six teams in the League's regular-season standings will advance to Championships play with the top two seeds receiving byes to the semifinals. The regular-season champion will host the semifinal and championship matches on Friday, November 8, and Sunday, November 10, respectively. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA College Cup.
