BALTIMORE, Md. - Loyola College women's soccer team was one of 15 teams to be ranked in the Mid-Atlantic region by SoccerBuzz Magazine.
The Greyhounds, who are also the preseason pick to win the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference by the league's coaches, are ranked 15th in the region. They open their season on August 31 at home against James Madison, which is ranked 12th in the Mid-Atlantic.
Loyola's schedule includes five teams that are also regionally ranked in the first polls of the season.
Old Dominion, the Greyhounds first road opponent on September 2, is ranked 10th in the region.
Loyola then travels to Blacksburg, Va., for the Virginia Tech Tournament. The Greyhounds face Wake Forest, which is ranked seventh in the Southeast Region and is also receiving votes in the national poll, in the tournament's first game on September 7. Loyola plays the host Hokies, who are ninth in the Mid-Atlantic region, on September 9.
The following weekend, the Greyhounds take on Colorado College in the Colorado College Invitational on September 16. The Tigers, who earned an at-large bid to last year's NCAA Tournament, are rated 10th in the Central region.
Loyola plays at Fairfield on November 2. The Stags, who are the only other MAAC team to be regionally ranked, open the season 13th in the Northeast region.
This poll marks the sixth year, out of the regional polls' 11 years of existence, that the Greyhounds have been ranked in the first ranking of the season. Loyola has been ranked regionally in each of the last four years and in nine of the last 11. Last season, the Greyhounds ascended to as high as 10th in the regional rankings.
