COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's soccer coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski has announced the 2003 Maryland/adidas Classic has been shifted back a day to accomodate for soccer fans to attend the United States' World Cup opening game on Sept. 21 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
The 2003 Maryland/adidas Classic will now be played on Thursday, Sept. 18 and Saturday, Sept. 20 instead of the originally scheduled games on Sept. 19 and 21. On the first day of the Maryland tournament, Tennessee will take on William & Mary at 5 p.m. That will be followed the Maryland/Loyola game at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Ludwig Field. The Saturday, Sept. 20 games will be played at the SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md., to prevent a traffic conflict with the Maryland/West Virginia football game that same day (at a time to be determined later). The first game on Saturday will pit Loyola against William & Maryland at 5 p.m. The second game will see the Terps take on Tennessee at 7:30 p.m. For tickets to these games please call the SoccerPlex at 301-528-1480.
These four games set the stage for the United States Women's National Team opening game at the 2003 Women's World Cup as the U.S. takes on Sweden on Sunday, Sept. 21 at RFK Stadium. The time of the game has yet to be determined.
