Women's Soccer Picked to Win MAAC in Coaches' Poll

Baltimore, MD - The Greyhound women's soccer team was chosen as the favorite to win the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title for the fifth year in a row in a preseason coaches poll released Thursday. Loyola earned 98 poll points to rank first. Sophomore and returning leading scorer Carolyn Kennington was tabbed as the preseason Player of the Year and was joined on the preseason all-MAAC team by four of her teammates (Lindsay Tracey, Ashley Kramer, Courtney Arikian and Kaitlin Klar).Kennington finished first on the team in scoring as a freshman in 2003 with 11 goals and six assists and was named the MAAC Rookie of the Year as well as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She was a first-team all-MAAC selection as well.Tracey, a captain of the 2004 Loyola squad, was named the MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2003 in addition to a spot on the first-team all-MAAC. Kramer, the 2002 Rookie of the Year, has a career total of eight goals and two assists with the Greyhounds. As a freshman she also earned first-team all-MAAC honors. Sophomores Arikian and Klar both return to the Loyola squad as second-team all-MAAC and all-rookie team selections in 2003. Loyola edged out Fairfield, who earned 86 points and were picked to finish second in the MAAC. Rider, Siena and Niagara rounded out the top-five. The Greyhounds have won six MAAC titles, earning four trips to the NCAA College Cup.Head coach Joe Mallia and the Greyhounds open the 2004 season at William & Mary on Friday, August 27.
