Women's Soccer Picked Fourth In MAAC Preseason Poll

EDISON, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team is picked to finish fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, the league office announced Thursday.

The Greyhounds, who finished in a tie for fourth in the MAAC last year, received 66 total points in the MAAC preseason coaches' poll. Siena was chosen as the preseason favorite, totaling 92 points, while Canisius (89 points) was selected second with Fairfield (70 points) third.

Junior Nichole Schiro, the 2010 MAAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year, was named to the Preseason All-MAAC team. Schiro was an All-MAAC First Team performer last season, scoring 15 goals and totaling 31 points. The junior enters the season ranked fifth on the Loyola career goals list with 24 and eighth on the career points list with 55.

Loyola starts its 2011 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Towson at 5 p.m. The Greyhounds play their home opener on Monday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. against sixth-ranked Maryland at Ridley Athletic Complex. Buy Tickets Now!
