Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola women's soccer team has been picked first in the 2007 Preseason MAAC Coaches' Poll. The Greyhounds, who also landed midfielder Lea Day and defenders Brynn McGrath and Sarra Moller on the MAAC Preseason Team, have won the regular season crown the past four seasons.
Overall, Loyola has won either the MAAC regular season title or the conference tournament the past eight seasons. The Greyhounds have lost only one MAAC regular season contest in their last 47 consecutive matches, and last season outscored conference foes 24-5.
Day, McGratch and Moller each earned All-MAAC honors last season, while Moller was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2005. The Greyhounds open the season on August 31 when they host James Madison University.
Loyola finished with 93 points in the poll, six points ahead of second-place Niagara University (87). Fairfield University was picked third with 86 points, and Siena College finished in fourth place with 62 points. Manhattan College placed fifth (58), followed by Marist College (57), Iona College (33), Canisius College and Rider University (30), and Saint Peter's College (14).
