EDISON, N.J. - Four Loyola College women's soccer players were named to the 2008 Preseason All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Team, based on a vote of the conference's 10 head coaches.
The Greyhounds, who return 10 of 11 starters from a team that captured the 2007 MAAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Women's Soccer College Cup, were picked to finish second by the coaches. Loyola received 90 points, one behind Marist, the 2007 MAAC Regular Season Champion, which took top honors in the poll.
Fairfield was slotted third by the coached with 88 points, and Niagara edged Siena for fourth place, 60-59. Manhattan was picked sixth, three points behing Siena, while Iona was seventh with 40.
Iona, Canisius and Saint Peter's were the final three teams in the poll with 30, 26 and 10 points, respectively.
Loyola opens its 2008 season on August 22 with a date against the team it played in the College Cup First Round a year ago, Virginia. The Greyhounds start MAAC play on October 3 when they host Iona.
