Women's Soccer Announces 2012 Schedule

2012 Schedule

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland women’s soccer team has announced its 19-game 2012 schedule, which will include nine home games at Ridley Athletic Complex, head coach Katherine Remy Vettori and the athletic department announced today.

The slate has Loyola playing 10 non-conference games, followed by the usual nine-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule.

“We have put together a very tough non-conference schedule that will prepare us for what will be a competitive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference season,” said Vettori.

The Greyhounds will battle three teams that participated in the 2011 NCAA College Cup, including Oakland University, LaSalle and Marist.

Loyola kicks-off the schedule at home on Wednesday, August 22, against Howard at Ridley Athletic Complex.

The Greyhounds then make a trip to Michigan, the home state of rising senior Nichole Schiro, as Loyola battles Michigan State on August 24, and Oakland on August 26. The Spartans finished third in the Big Ten in 2011, while Oakland won the Summit League title.

Loyola returns home to Ridley for a pair of home games beginning with local-rival Towson on August 31, in the second game of a doubleheader with the men’s team. Loyola also takes on Delaware (Sept. 7), reigning A-10 champion La Salle (Sept. 14), and Saint Joseph’s (Sept. 16) at home in non-conference play, with a road match-up at American on September 9 mixed in.

After finishing up the non-conference portion on the road at Stony Brook and Fordham on September 21 and 23, respectively, the Greyhounds open MAAC play at home against Iona on September 28. Loyola also hosts Fairfield on September 30.

The Greyhounds then play three-straight road games, beginning at Saint Peter’s on October 5. Loyola then takes on Manhattan on October 7, and Rider on October 13.

Loyola closes out its home schedule against Niagara on October 19 and versus Canisius on October 21, before playing its final two games of the regular-season at reigning MAAC Champion Marist on October 26, and at Siena on October 28.

The 2012 MAAC Championship will be hosted by Marist on November 4 and 6 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
