Baltimore, Md. - The 2006 Loyola College women's soccer schedule was released Wednesday. It features a list of challenging opponents including Final Four participant Florida State. The schedule also features six home games to be played on Alumnae Field.
The Greyhounds open the season at Arizona State on Monday August 28th and will remain in Phoenix to play Saint Louis on Friday, September 1st and Florida State on Sunday, September 3rd as a part of the Sun Devils Tournament. Both Saint Louis and Florida State appeared in the 2005 College Cup with the Billikens making their way to the second round while the Seminoles appeared in the Final Four. FSU also finished the season ranked fifth in the nation by Soccer Buzz.
Loyola returns for some more local games in early September, traveling to Georgetown on the 8th and Maryland on the 12th. Following the trip to College Park, the `Hounds will host their first game of the season on September 17th vs. Richmond.
The next three games all take the Loyola squad to New Jersey, starting with Rutgers on September 19th. Just over a week later, the `Hounds will visit Princeton on the 27th. Both are night games to be played at 7:00. Both the Scarlet Knights and the Tigers were ranked regionally at the close of the last season with Princeton 10th and Rutgers 12th in the Mid-Atlantic Region by Soccer Buzz. The Greyhounds were ranked sixth. To round out the Jersey trips, Loyola will begin its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule by visiting the Rider Broncs on September 30th.
Returning home, the first opponent will be Lehigh on October 3rd. The Mountain Hawks will be the final non-conference opponent of the season for Loyola. Last season, they ranked just below the `Hounds in the Mid-Atlantic Region polls at seventh.
Following the Lehigh game, both Canisius and Niagara will visit Baltimore on October 6th and 8th, respectively. The next two MAAC contests take the Greyhounds to the road visiting Siena (October 13) and Marist (October 15). Loyola returns home for their final home games of the season, hosting Iona (October 20) and Fairfield (October 22). The final two games of the regular season will be road games with the `Hounds visiting Manhattan (October 27) and Saint Peter's (October 29).
