BALTIMORE - Former Greyhound Amanda Piccirilli will return to her alma mater this fall as she has been named an assistant coach for the Loyola women's soccer team, head coach Katherine Remy Vettori announced. Piccirilli was a four-year goalkeeper for the `Hounds from 2005-08 and served as team captain her final two seasons.
"We are looking forward to the addition of Amanda to our coaching staff this season," said Vettori. "She will add a lot to our program with her knowledge of the game, dynamic personality and motivational skills. She will take our goalkeeping unit to the next level."
Piccirilli started 23 games in net for the Greyhounds, accumulating over 2,200 minutes of playing time, and recorded 56 saves and ten shutouts.
The Lansdale, Pa., native, saw her most playing time as a freshman in 2005, starting 15 games, recording an 0.55 goals-against-average, which ranked 13th in the nation and seven shutouts.
Following her senior season in 2008, Piccirilli received the Rev. Francis J. McManamin Unsung Hero Award, which goes to the female student-athlete whose hard work and determination help improve Loyola's intercollegiate athletics program.
Piccirilli also represented the women's soccer team on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, was a student assistant in the Loyola athletics communications department and a staff writer for The Greyhound.
Most recently, Piccirilli served as a goalkeeper coach for the Cape Cod Reunited Soccer Association and was a communications assistant for the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
Prior to Loyola, Piccirilli has served as a personal goalkeeper trainer the last seven years and a three-year camp instructor at the United States Soccer Academy. She also served as an assistant coach on the U-12 Towamencin Youth Soccer Association from 2003-04.
Piccirilli also played on the Eastern Pennsylvania ODP from 1998-2004 and was on the United States Region I Team from 2000-02.
Loyola opens the 2010 season at the Ridley Athletic Complex when they take on crosstown rival Towson August 21 at 7:00 pm.
