Women's Soccer Announces Spring and Fall 2004 Schedules

Jan. 21, 2004

Baltimore, MD - Head women's soccer coach, Joe Mallia has released his squad's 2004 spring and fall schedules. The Greyhounds enter the spring season after an exciting 12-9-1 season in which they won their fourth consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title. With the conference title, Loyola appeared in its third NCAA College Cup. Mallia's squad will pick-up where they left off in terms of their competition with strong spring and fall opponents.

"We are looking to our spring schedule with great anticipation," Mallia said. "We return a tremendous nucleus from the fall and are looking to challenge ourselves with our spring competition."

The Greyhounds will play in four tournaments over the span of the spring season, beginning at home. On March 14, Loyola will host two club teams from Region 1, the Albertson Express from Long Island and RFC Milan from Northern Virginia.

The following weekend, the Greyhounds will visit George Mason. The Patriots will also host local opponents George Washington and Georgetown in that tournament.

On April 4, Loyola will take part in a tournament at the Germantown SoccerPlex in Germantown, MD that funds breast cancer research. This tournament always brings in some of the top teams in the nation. Past Participants have been Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and Tennessee.

To close the spring season, Mallia and his squad will travel back to West Virginia on April 24. The Greyhounds have traveled to Morgantown for the last two years to face the Mountaineers in the first round of the College Cup.

"This spring season will bring us a great opportunity to lay the ground work for the fall," Mallia said. "We face several top opponents in our regular season and this schedule will definitely prepare us for those challenges."

In the fall, Loyola will face six non-conference opponents who traveled to the 2003 College Cup with a scrimmage against Rutgers and regular season games against William & Mary, Texas, Villanova, Washington and Maryland. Both Washington and Texas will be new-comers to the Loyola schedule and are both nationally prominent out-of-region opponents. In addition to regional powerhouses William & Mary, Villanova and Maryland; the Greyhounds will face strong local programs such as St. Joseph's, James Madison and American.

As a part of their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule, the Greyhounds will face Marist, Siena, Saint Peter's, Manhattan and Rider on the road while hosting Iona, Fairfield, Niagara and Canisius.
