Senior Rosy Hayes scored the Greyhounds' lone goal in the 67th minute when she blasted a left-footed shot past the Midshipmen's defense for the Greyhound's first-ever Patriot League Tournament goal. Junior Charlotte Miller set up the scoring opportunity when her corner kick deflected off a Navy player and back to her. The junior forward passed the rebound to Hayes at the top of the 18-yard box for the goal.
"We came up against a very strong and physical Navy team," head coach Naomi Meiburger said. "I thought we played well. Unfortunately, we just weren't able to overcome the deficit. Credit to our team for battling all 90 minutes. I'm really happy we were able to pull a goal back. Overall, it was a great season and I'm tremendously proud of the team."
Navy (12-3-5 overall, 6-1-2 Patriot League) scored two goals in the first half, the initial point coming in the 20th minute off a Midshipmen free kick. Julie Schumacher played the ball to the feet of the Patriot League's three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Jade Seabrook, who flicked a quick pass to Morgan Dankanich. The forward chipped an aerial cross inside the box and found the head of Lexi Ricketts for the finish.
Less than 10 minutes later, the Midshipmen were awarded another set piece, taking a corner kick in the 27th minute. Dankanich took the corner, sailing the ball into the box and over goal line for Navy's second goal of the first half.
Loyola found it's first opportunity to score in the 23rd minute, when Hayes took an aerial cross from redshirt junior Jessica Van Dyke just inside the box. Hayes connected on the diving header, but Navy's backline was there to make the block and keep the Greyhounds off the scoreboard during the first half.
The Greyhounds came back from the half strong, as sophomore Morgan Crable came forward from the back line, beating a number of Navy defenders and taking a shot from just outside the middle of the box. The attempt sailed over the crossbar, but set the tone for Loyola's offense.
Senior Kelly Santangelo set up Loyola's free kick in the 54th minute, sending a pass to the right wing. Junior Brooke Kerrigan got under the ball and sent a header toward the goal, skimming the far post and just missing the shot.
One minute later, Navy added its third goal of the contest when Dankanich placed a shot into the chest of Loyola's Colleen Folan. The ball was redirected to Kelty Caprice, as she finished the put back for Navy.
Navy's Megan Rogers scored the final goal of the contest, a give-and-go from Clare MacAdams just inside the 18.
Folan made seven saves in the final match of her collegiate career, tying her career-best set earlier this year against College of the Holy Cross.
Loyola finishes the year 6-9-4 overall and 2-3-4 in Patriot League play.
