Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola College women's soccer team clinched the regular season Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title with a 3-0 victory over Rider Saturday afternoon on Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. The Greyhounds finished the season undefeated in conference play at 9-0 and a 14-3 overall record. The Broncs drop to 2-14-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the league.
Loyola's first goal came in the 16th minute of play when senior Ali Andrzejewski passed the ball up field to junior Carolyn Kennington who beat two Rider defenders and her shot was out of Rider keeper Hannah Harris's reach.
The score remained 1-0 until Kennington struck again in the 50th minute. Kennington took a pass ahead from freshman Christy Mazzola and this time beating keeper Kim Carter with a shot to the right corner of goal for the 2-0 lead.
Andrzejewski added the third and final goal when classmate Ashley Kramer gave her a forward pass and her shot sunk into the right corner of the goal for the 3-0 final.
Rider's Harris recorded a save in goal in the first half while Carter was credited with two in the second.
Loyola held a 13-2 advantage in shots on the day as well as a 4-2 mark in corner kicks.
The Greyhounds, who have not lost a regular season conference contest in 38 games, clinch the MAAC regular season title with their second consecutive undefeated season.
With a goal and an assist on the day, Andrzejewski improved her career totals to 31 goals, nine assists and 71 points. She holds the Loyola school records in both goals and points. Kennington's two goals moved her into third place on the all-time goals list with 24 and improved her career points total to 68. Kramer's assist moved her from fifth to fourth place on Loyola's career assists list with 17 total.
The 2005 MAAC tournament is to be held at Disney's Wide World of Sports beginning Thursday, October 27.
