Boston - Boston University scored in the 82nd minute to defeat Loyola University Maryland’s women’s soccer, 1-0, at Nickerson Field Saturday afternoon.
“I’m incredibly proud of the effort we showed,” said Head Coach Katherine Remy Vettori. “Boston University is a strong team, and we played hard on their home turf.”
The Terriers’ Erica Kosienski scored the lone goal after Megan McGoldrick sent a midfield pass forward. Kosienski then beat two Loyola defenders to find the back of the net in the 82nd minute.
Boston University (10-3-3 overall, 5-1-0 Patriot League) outshot the Greyhounds 19-2, while recording all 10 corners of the matchup.
Freshman Maddie Boccio created two quality chances in the first half, recording the only two shots for the Greyhounds (1-10-3, 0-5-1).
The back four of Kelly Santangelo, Riley Piechnick, Nicole Wahlig and Kelsey Targarona held the No. 3 scoring offense in the League scoreless for 81 minutes. The defense also held the No. 2 goal-scorer, Madison Clemens, scoreless.
Haracic played all 90 minutes, recording one save throughout the contest.
Loyola returns home on Wednesday, Oct. 23, to play in its final mid-week contest of the season. The Greyhounds will host the American University Eagles at 7 p.m., at Ridley Athletic Complex.
