BUFFALO, N.Y. - Loyola College junior midfielder Theresa Ferraina scored the game-winning goal for the second match in a row, lifting the Greyhounds to a 1-0 defeat of host Canisius College at the Demske Sports Complex in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game.
Ferraina took a long pass from Kristina Balfoort in the 65th minute and beat Canisius goalkeeper Daniella Pettinari one-on-one to score the only goal of the game.
She also scored an unassisted tally in Loyola's 1-0 victory over Rider on October 13.
Loyola (6-5-2 overall, 3-0-1 MAAC) has won three straight games and raised its record to above .500 for the first time this season.
The Greyhounds defense recorded its fourth consecutive shutout, holding the Golden Griffins (5-8-1, 2-3-0 MAAC) to only six shots, two on goal. Loyola took 10 shots in the match.
Loyola had a good scoring chance in the 20th minute as Lina Staropoli hit a shot that deflected off the post. Seconds later, Balfoort struck a shot on goal that was saved by Pettinari.
The Greyhounds continue their road trip with a 12 p.m. game at Niagara University on Sunday, October 21.
