Cooke's Second Half Goal Extends Loyola's Unbeaten Streak To Seven; Greyhounds Tie Jaspers, 1-1

Oct. 12, 2008

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Heather Cooke headed in a goal in the 54th minute, and Loyola tied Manhattan, 1-1, in a double-overtime Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match on Sunday morning.

The tie extended the Greyhounds (5-5-3 overall, 3-0-1 MAAC) unbeaten streak to seven games.

Following a Manhattan foul, Theresa Ferraina served a free kick with her right foot from just outside the 18-yard box. The ball swung from right-to-left, and Kelly Farrell played it off her head.

Cooke then directed the ball into the goal for the equalizing tally.

Manhattan took a 1-0 lead in the match's 33rd minute, as Courtney McMahon took a cross from Alexandra Konneker and scored.

"We had some good chances," Loyola Head Coach Katherine Vettori said. "Ashley Lunemann served weakside ball to Kelly Farrell, and she headed it just wide. Kelly also hit the cross bar on a shot, so we had some good opportunities. Manhattan had some good looks too. It was a good battle."

Each team recorded 12 shots, and Brittany Henderson made seven saves for the Greyhounds in goal. Alyssa Bachowski had four saves for the Jaspers (5-5-2, 2-0-1).

The Greyhounds continue MAAC action on Saturday, October 18, when they play at Rider.
