Baltimore, Md. - Three members of the Loyola College women's soccer team scored in a 4-0 win for the Greyhounds over Canisius Friday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. Loyola improved to 4-5-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the conference while the Griffs fell to 4-8-1 on he season and 1-1-1 in the MAAC.
The Greyhounds got on the board early with a goal in the 11th minute when senior Kaitlin Klar tapped the ball to freshman Christina Gomez who was waiting in front of the goal. Gomez found the back of the net during a scuffle in front of the goal and quickly gave Loyola a 1-0 lead.
Loyola continued to cushion their lead in the second half when senior Katelyn Woods took a sliding shot from the top of the box in the 61st minute for the 3-0 advantage.
Ten minutes later the Greyhounds recorded their final goal of the game scored by Gomez with the assist to freshman Amanda Meehan.
Loyola held a 19-2 advantage in shots, a 9-1 lead in shots on goal and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Brittany Henderson stopped one shot in the first half while sophomore Amanda Picirrilli played all 45 minutes of the second half. For Canisius, Gage recorded three saves before being relieved by Daniellla Pettinari, who stopped two shots.
The Greyhounds host MAAC opponent Niagara on Sunday, October 8 at 12:00.
