Baltimore, Md. - Junior Courtney Arikian scored her fourth goal of the season in the 39th minute while Brynn McGrath and Ali Andrzejewski added second-half insurance goals as the Greyhounds cruised to a 3-0 win over Penn on Wednesday afternoon at Alumnae Field.
Arikian, who gave the `Hounds a 1-0 halftime lead, scored an indiscriminate goal at 39:24 when her shot looked to be saved by Quaker keeper Jessica Keeley, who was actually inside the cage, thus giving Loyola the early edge.
The Greyhounds would double their lead at 72:56 when McGrath dribbled down the right side of the field and struck the ball in stride, sailing it over the head of Keeley. The goal as not only McGrath's first of the season, but also her first shot attempt.
With a two-goal cushion, Penn continued to fight and with 4:20 left in regulation, Andrzejewski put the game away. Scoring off her own rebound, the prolific senior scorer from nearby Lutherville, posted her eighth goal of the year, giving her 26 career goals, two shy of the Loyola record.
Amanda Piccirilli picked up the win and the shutout in goal, giving her four shutouts and a 6-1 mark this season. Piccirilli, who now has a 0.61 goals-against average, also has back-to-back shutous for the `Hounds.
Loyola will be back in action this Friday when it hosts Marist at 3 p.m. The Greyhounds are 2-0 in MAAC competition and play conference opponents the rest of the regular season.
