Women's Soccer Falls to Rutgers, 1-0

Piscatway, N.J. - The Loyola College women's soccer team fell to Rutgers, 1-0 Tuesday at Yurak Field. The Greyhounds fall to 1-4-2 on the season while the Scarlet Knights, who rank sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the NSCAA, improve to 6-1-0.

The two teams battled defensively for much of the first half with the scoreboard remaining 0-0 until the 41st minute of play. Rutgers was awarded a penalty kick and Gina DeMaio found the back of the net with the penalty shot for the 1-0 lead.

The Greyhounds Theresa Ferraina recorded a shot on goal early in the first half, in the 17th minute but was thwarted by the Scarlet Knights keeper Erin Guthrie.

Loyola had two other scoring changes in the second half with shots on goal from Colleen Kinealy in the 48th minute and Courtney Arikian in the 71st minute but both were stopped by Guthrie.

Loyola keeper Brittany Henderson stopped four shots in goal while Guthrie stopped the three Greyhound shots on goal.

The Greyhounds are off until next Wednesday, September 27 when they return to New Jersey to face Princeton.
