The Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team gave up a pair of first-half goals to La Salle Friday night, dropping a 2-0 non-conference contest at Ridley Athletic Complex.
La Salle goalkeeper Gabrielle Pakhigian struck a goal kick that was flicked forward by an Anna Dolhansky header to Erin Brennan. She slipped a through ball to Leigh Gray who had raced past a pair of Loyola defenders and chipped a shot over an on-rushing Didi Haracic to put the Explorers in front in the 15th minute.
Later in the first half, Washington settled a ball, spun on a Loyola defender and then eluded two more Greyhounds to score an unassisted goal in the 37th minute, expanding the Explorers' lead to 2-0.
The Greyhounds had an opportunity to get on the board in the 51st minute when senior Brittany Yancey bent a corner toward the far post. Senior Nichole Schiro met the ball and sent a high header toward the goal, but it deflected off the cross bar to junior Katelyn McFadden about 10 yards out. McFadden spun and flicked the rebound backwards, but it was blocked by an Explorer defender to preserve Pakhigian's shutout.
For the game, the Greyhounds were out-shot 12-4 but held a 5-2 advantage in corners.
In goal, junior Did Haracic stopped one shot in the loss.
The Greyhounds will be back in action on Sunday when they host Saint Joseph's at 1 p.m.
