Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola College women's soccer team dominated play Saturday, defeating St. Joseph's 7-0. The Greyhounds had six different goal scorers, lead by junior Naomi Daniels with two goals and an assist. Loyola improves to 3-2 while the Hawks fall to 1-4.
Loyola got things started early, scoring their first goal in under four minutes. Naomi Daniels passed off a direct kick to Ashley Kramer. Kramer tapped the ball to Courtney Arikian for the goal at 3:35.
At 16:07, the Greyhounds made their lead 2-0 when Ali Andrzejewski's corner kick got to Kramer. Kramer's initial shot was blocked but SJU's keeper Jen Kuhn couldn't hold onto the ball as it bounced directly in front of Kaitlin Klar's feet where she was open for the goal.
The score remained 2-0 for much of the remainder of the first half until 41:34 when Daniels tallied her first goal. Daniels took her second direct kick and sailed it beautifully into the right corner of the net.
Ellen Sroka improved the lead to 4-0 just 35 seconds into the second half. Sroka dribbled the ball past several defenders and beat the Hawk's backup keeper, Nicole Dienna.
Not even three minutes later, Daniels gave Loyola a 5-0 lead when she took a clean pass from Kramer and beat Dienna. Kramer tallied her third assist on that goal.
The Greyhounds scored on their third direct kick at 75:24 when Carolyn Kennington's kick bounced off a part of the St. Joseph's wall and into the right corner of the goal.
And to close the scoring, freshman Sarah Orscheln tapped a corner kick into play and dribbled around several defenders before passing off to classmate Brittany Marano. Marano beat Dienna for the 7-0 final. It was the first career scoring effort for both Orscheln and Marano.
Loyola held a 22-4 advantage in shots and 5-0 in corner kicks.
Erica Niemann saved the Hawks only shot on goal while the starting keeper for St. Joe's, Kuhn, stopped seven Loyola attempts to score.
The Greyhounds next face Washington next Sunday, Sept. 19 at the University of Maryland. Game time is 12:00.
