Gainesville, Fla. - The No. 12 University of Floirda women's soccer team used two second half goals to defeat visiting Loyola, 2-0 Friday night at Pressly Stadium. The Greyhounds fall to 2-3 with the loss while the Gators improve to 3-1.
After a scoreless first half, Florida's Melanie Booth scored after she headed in the kick by Ameera Abdullah just inside the post at 54:30. The Gators add an insurance goal from Lindsey DeLorenze. Her unassisted goal came from 25-yard center shot that curled under the crossbar at 78:56.
The Greyhounds freshman keeper Amanda Piccirilli stopped three shots in her second start of the season while Florida's keeper Jen Gardner was credited with eight.
The Gators are the second nationally ranked Loyola has faced in its tough pre-season schedule. The Greyhounds met No. 8 Penn State in their third game of the season.
Loyola looks to bounce back as they travel to the University of Central Florida on Sunday, September 11.
