Tempe, Ariz. - In the first round of the Heather Falls KICKS Against Breast Cancer Tournament, the Loyola College women's soccer team fell to Saint Louis by a score of 4-1. The Greyhounds fall to 0-2-0 with the loss while the Billikens improve to 2-1-0.
Saint Louis opened scoring nearly 25 minutes into play when Maureen Hughes scored off a pass from Julia Bradenberg for the 1-0 score. After 37:19 of play, Kelly Waeckerle gave the Billikens a 2-0 lead when she broke away to score off a pass from Sally Sinclair.
The Greyhounds got on board in the second half when Preseason Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year Courtney Arikian scored after Theresa Ferraina passed off a free kick to her after 72:50 of play for the 2-1 score.
But Loyola was not able to catch up as SLU scored the final two goals of the game. Courtney Hukcher nabbed an unassisted goal at 79:56 and Bradenberg added a goal off a cross from Dee Guempel at 83:10 for the 4-1 final.
Freshman goalkeeper Brittany Henderson stopped five Billiken shots while SLU goalie Hannah Koesterer recorded two saves.
The Greyhounds face Florida State Sunday, September 3 in the final round of the tournament hosted by Arizona State.
