Final Stats BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Danielle Castro scored five minutes into overtime to defeat Loyola, 2-1, in the Greyhounds season opener at the Owls Kickoff Tournament in Boca Raton, FL Friday evening.

"We played well for a good part of tonight's game," Loyola's head coach Joe Mallia said about the loss. "But we gave up two unfortunate goals to a very organzied team that played with alot of heart and I think that was our pitfall."

The night started slowly, with each team trying to gain the momentum. FAU struck first in the 17th minute when Rodriguez pushed up the right sideline and crossed the ball towards net. Loyola keeper Erica Niemann made a punch save on the ball, but to the feet of sophomore Denise Brolly. Brolly wound up and shot the ball that ricocheted off of the right post and out of bounds.

In the 43rd minute, freshman Carolyn Kennington ripped a shot from the right side, 35 yards out, which dipped past FAU keeper Molly Keating to put Loyola up 1-0 going into the half. It was Kennington's first collegiate goal.

In the second half, Cristina Rodriguez set up Christina Chang for their first career points. Rodriguez rolled out to the right sideline and passed it just past a Loyola player to the feet of Chang. Chang blasted a shot from 25 yards out past Niemann to tie the game at 1-1 with 24 minutes remaining in the half.

Five minutes into overtime, Castro ran down the right sideline towards midfield looking for an open teammate. She spotted midfielder Rhonda Jones making a run towards goal and launched a shot 45 yards. The ball narrowly missed Jones's head but took a huge bounce over Niemann's hands into the back of the net.

FAU out shot Loyola 13-7 while Niemann made five saves on the evening.

The Greyhounds will face Miami Sunday afternoon as a part of the Owls Tournament.
