BOSTON, Mass. -
The Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team lost to Northeastern, 3-0, at Parsons Field on Friday evening in the first of back-to-back road games in Boston, Mass.
Northeastern (2-1) took the lead in the xx minute when CAA Preseason Player of the Year, Veronica Napoli, broke through on the right side and popped a ball just over the top of charging keeper Didi Haracic to put the Huskies up 1-0.
The Huskies added a second goal early in the second half when a bouncing ball in the box found the foot of Greta Samuelsdotti who fired a half-volley with her left foot into the right side of the net to put the home team on top 2-0.
Northeastern earned a penalty kick in the 77th minute of play when Samuelsdotti was taken down on a breakaway in the box by a diving Haracic. Kirby Anderson took the kick for the Huskies and finished it into the right side of the net to notch the final goal of the contest.
Loyola (0-3) generated several chances in the second half. Sophomore transfer Deja Walker came inches away from putting Loyola on the board, receiving a cross from junior Nichole Schiro and firing a ball from the left side that hit off the right post and bounced out.
Schiro had a chance her of her own in the final seconds of the match, as she dribbled through the Northeastern defense and into the middle of the box, but had her shot blocked by freshman keeper Paige Burnett.
Due to the threat of Hurricane Irene, the Greyhounds game at Boston University originally scheduled for Sunday has been moved to Saturday (tomorrow), Aug. 27 at 4 p.m.
