BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland head women's lacrosse coach Jen Adams has announced the squad's 2013 spring schedule.
The Greyhounds, coming off their third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, have put together one of the nation's toughest non-conference schedules, as seven of their nine out-of-conference opponents advanced to the 2013 NCAA Championships.
Four NCAA Tournament teams will visit Ridley Athletic Complex, as Loyola will host seven home games this spring. Its contest at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, Feb. 26 will also be featured on ESPNU.
Loyola will begin its schedule at Virginia, an NCAA quarterfinalist last year, on Saturday, Feb. 15, before returning to Baltimore to face a second-straight NCAA qualifier, Princeton, on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The mid-week contest at Johns Hopkins will be followed up by a game at James Madison on Saturday, March 1. The Greyhounds will then sandwich a game at Penn State on Saturday, March 8 between a pair of home games versus Florida (Tuesday, March 4) and Towson (Wednesday, March 12). The Gators, Nittany Lions and Tigers were all NCAA Tournament participants a year ago, with Florida and Penn State advancing to the quarterfinal round.
Loyola will open its inaugural season in the Patriot League with back-to-back road games, as the Greyhounds will head to Lafayette on Saturday, March 15 and Bucknell on Wednesday, March 19.
Lehigh will be Loyola's first-ever Patriot League home game, with the Mountain Hawks coming to Baltimore on Saturday, March 22.
Loyola will then step out of conference play on Tuesday, March 25, when it travels to Washington, D.C., for a game against former BIG EAST-foe Georgetown.
Conference play will resume on Saturday, March 29 with a home contest versus Holy Cross. On Saturday, April 5, Loyola will head to Colgate, before returning home for a game against American (Wednesday, April 9). The final regular-season conference games will be at Boston University on Saturday, April 12, with Senior Day being scheduled versus defending Patriot League Champion and NCAA Tournament Navy on Saturday, April 19.
The 2014 Patriot League Championship will be a six-team tournament with the top two seeds receiving byes to the semifinals. The remaining higher seeds will host quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, April 22, with the tournament's top seed and regular-season champion hosting the semifinals and finals on Friday, April 25, and Sunday, April 27, respectively.
Following the tournament, the Greyhounds will resume their rivalry with 2013 BIG EAST Champion Syracuse with a trip to Upstate New York on Saturday, May 3.
The first and second round games for the 26-team NCAA Championships will be played at campus sites on Friday, May 9 and Sunday, May 11. The quarterfinals will take place the following weekend, with the semifinals and finals set for Friday, May 23 and Sunday, May 25 at Towson University.
