BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland head women’s lacrosse coach Jen Adams has announced that seniors Ashley Cahill and Joanna Dalton, in addition to junior Marlee Paton, will serve as team captains for the 2013 season.
“I’m excited to announce our three captains,” Adams said. “They each have their own strengths and styles, but also exemplify what it means to be a student-athlete here at Loyola. Combine that with their strong and effective leadership qualities and I believe they will provide this team a decided advantage as we strive to raise the bar and propel this program into the hunt for a National Championship.”
Cahill provided a strong and reliable spark off the bench for the Greyhounds last year. Playing in 10 games, the Baltimore, Md., native tallied two goals and distributed seven assists in helping Loyola to its second-straight BIG EAST title. Throughout her career, she has five goals and 10 assists in 25 games.
Dalton stepped in to take the majority of the draw controls last year, winning a team-best 56 to rank fourth in the BIG EAST with 3.29 per game. The Queenstown, Md., native was also fourth on the team with 27 goals and was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team for her play in the championships. In three years, Dalton has scored 43 goals and tallied 49 points to go with 23 ground balls, 61 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers.
Paton, a midfielder from Seaholme, Australia, earned first-team IWLCA All-America honors a year ago. The BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year led the Greyhounds with 54 goals, 36 assists and 90 points – the second-best single-season point total in program history. She was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, while also garnering All-America honors from WomensLax.com. In two years, Paton has scored 92 goals, assisted 46 scores and tallied 138 points.
The Greyhounds will open their 2013 season on Saturday, Feb. 16 when they host Virginia at Ridley Athletic Complex.
