Baltimore, Md. - The fourth annual Diane Geppi-Aikens Memorial 5k Run will take place on Saturday, September 23 at Loyola College. The 5k run or 1-mile walk will start and end at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field, home of Loyola lacrosse.
The run is dedicated to the memory of Diane Geppi-Aikens who passed away with an inoperable brain tumor in June of 2003. She was the head coach of the women's lacrosse team at Loyola for 15 years, beginning in 1989. Geppi-Aikens' career record of 197-71 includes 10 NCAA tournament appearances and a No. 1 national ranking in her storied, final season in 2003.
A new feature to the race this year is the Team Challenge. Individuals are welcome to register as a team and the team with the most entrants will win a prize. Teams must consist of 10 or more people and can be any type of group (friends, relatives, college/high school or club teams are some examples but any group can be a team) so get your friends together and come out and run for a good cause.
The DGA Memorial 5k Run helps to raise funds to support the Aikens Children Trust Fund and is a part of the Charm City Run program. Loyola College Athletics will also hold a raffle and give away prizes and awards. Details are available at www.charmcityrun.com.
