BALTIMORE - A record-setting crowd of 765 participants from the Baltimore area and the Loyola community took part in the 9th-Annual Diane Geppi-Aikens 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk on a crisp Saturday morning that brought perfect running weather.

The energetic crowd set a record for the highest number of participants in the nine-year history of the event, eclipsing the 729 who participated last year. It is also the fifth-straight year the run has drawn more than 600 participants.

The race was held on the University's campus in honor of the Loyola women's lacrosse coach who passed away in 2003 after a brave battle with brain cancer.

In addition to many local road runners, family and friends of Geppi-Aikens, and Loyola athletics teams, women's lacrosse teams from Loyola, Maryland, UMBC, Johns Hopkins, Goucher and Towson all ran or walked at the event.

The event supports the Aikens Children's Trust and is held annually on the third Saturday in September.
