BALTIMORE - Loyola College's women's lacrosse team opens its fall schedule this week with practices and will take to the field for competition later this month.
The Greyhounds return 23 players from last years team and added a crop of 10 freshmen to the mix for Head Coach Kerri O'Day.
This fall's first major event is the Diane Geppi-Aikens Memorial 5K Race and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk. The race commemorates the life and coaching accomplishments of Geppi-Aikens, Loyola's head coach from 1989-2003, who passed away in 2003 from cancer.
The race begins from Geppi-Aikens Field on Loyola's campus at 8 a.m. For more information and registration forms, go to the women's lacrosse page on loyolagreyhounds.com.
Following the race, the Greyhounds will host their alumnae in an exhibition game. The current team will play alumnae on Geppi-Aikens Field at 11 a.m.
Loyola kicks off its fall intercollegiate competition on Saturday, October 6, when it hosts a five-team tournament. Cornell, George Mason, Louisville and Vanderbilt will travel to Baltimore for the event, which will run from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The Greyhounds will then travel to Fairfax, Va., on October 20 for the George Mason Tournament. Loyola ventures down I-95 again on October 27 to play in the Georgetown Tournament.
