Stone, Filippelli Earn IWLCA Academic Honors

BALTIMORE - Two Loyola College women's lacrosse players were named to the NCAA Division I Academic Honor Roll by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association today for their excellence in the classroom and on the field.

Defender Kristen Stone (Buffalo, N.Y./The Nichols School) and midfielder Kate Filippelli (Devon, Pa./Archbishop Carroll High School), who both completed their eligibility this season, were named to the Honor Roll.

Stone, who earned IWLCA Regional All-America and All-BIG EAST First Team honors and was named to the Inside Lacrosse Magazine All-America Third Team, led the Greyhounds and the BIG EAST with 2.50 ground balls per game. She was second in the conference, and topped the team, with 1.62 caused turnovers per game.

In the classroom, Stone recorded a 3.47 grade point average and graduated in May with a degree in mathematics.

Filippelli was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team and was named the team's Most Valuable Player following the season. She turned in her top statistical season as a Greyhound, finishing third on the team in goals scored (23), assists (13) and total points (36). She was second on the squad in ground balls (35), draw controls (41) and caused turnovers (21).

Filippelli has a 3.31 grade point average and is completing her degree in elementary education.

Both Stone and Filippelli earned the award for the second year in a row.
