Women's Lacrosse Assistant Coach Jess Roguski Named to the US National Team

Aug. 9, 2006

Baltimore, Md. - Assistant women's lacrosse coach Jess Roguski was named to the United States Women's Elite Team following a two-day tryout lst week featuring over 130 of the nation's top players.

US Lacrosse announced the rosters for the 2006-07 U.S. women's Elite and Developmental teams Saturday. The squads were selected by the 10-person US Lacrosse Women's Division National Teams Selection Committee (NTSC), chaired by incoming Hall of Famer Feffie Barnhill.

"We are excited that so many of our top players participated in these tryouts as we look forward to the 2009 IFWLA World Cup, which will be held in the Czech Republic," said Chip Rogers, chair of the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Teams Committee.

"The opportunity and privilege to represent the USA is an honor, and these women represented themselves and their universities remarkably well. Our new process was well-accepted by the participants, and I applaud our large pool of selectors, who have done a phenomenal job in observing the athletes over the last two days and given us a solid group of our nation's top lacrosse players."

Each team roster appears below.

The 24-player Elite team is comprised of individuals who have demonstrated their exceptional abilities as lacrosse players with regards to skill, but also through leadership and sportsmanship. The Elite squad is designed to prepare and train the best players in the country to compete against the best collegiate and international teams in the world.

The 22-player Developmental team program serves as a means by which the adult lacrosse player can gain greater exposure to international competition and have an opportunity to continue to develop her skills with the aim of becoming a member of the Elite or World Cup team and represent the U.S. at the senior international level.

The U.S. Elite and Developmental teams have scheduled two weekends of competition in the upcoming months. The teams will play top college programs during the Stars and Stripes Weekend Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Northern Virginia and during the Champions Challenge Weekend Jan. 27-28, 2007, in Orlando, Fla.

The US Lacrosse Women's Division National Teams Selection Committee next will name a 24-member training team for the 2007 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) Under-19 World Championship following a tryout Wednesday at UMBC. About 150 of the nation's top players will participate in that tryout, which is closed to the public.
