BALTIMORE - The 9th-Annual Diane Geppi-Aikens 5k Race and 1-Mile Fun Walk will take place on Saturday, September 17, at 8:30 a.m.

The race and fun run/walk honors the legacy of former Loyola Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Diane Geppi-Aikens who passed away in 2003. Geppi-Aikens was Loyola's head coach from 1989-2003 and amassed a career record of 197-71, including 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and a No. 1 national ranking in 2003.
The race begins at 8:30 a.m. and commences at Geppi-Aikens Field on Loyola's campus. The event is coordinated by Charm City Run and features a challenging course through the beautiful Guilford neighborhood of Baltimore City.
Awards will be presented at the end of the race to the top three male and female runners, as well as the top three in each age group. The top male and female Loyola lacrosse alumni as well as the top current male and female Loyola students and staff members also will receive prizes.
As in the past four years, the 2011 event features a Team Challenge component. The team with the most entrants also will win a prize. Teams must consist of at least 10 people and can be formed from any group of people (friends, family, college/high school teams, club teams, etc.).
