Filippelli, Gardner Advance In U.S. Team Tryouts

BALTIMORE - A pair of Loyola women's lacrosse players, Cara Filippelli and Tara Gardner were among those who advanced to the second round of the United States National Developmental Team tryouts.

Filippelli and Gardner were two of over 150 players who took part in the tryouts earlier this month in Bel Air, Md.

They will be amongst 62 other players vying for spots on the 2009-2010 U.S. Developmental Team. The second round of tryouts will take place August 1-2, 2009, in College Park, Md.

Filippelli and Gardner helped the Greyhounds finish with an 11-6 record this season. Filippelli earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors after leading the conference in caused turnovers with 39. She also topped the team with 46 ground balls and also had 15 goals and five assists.

Gardner was a solid member of the Greyhounds' line defense. She caused 12 turnovers and scooped up 22 ground balls.

Together, they helped Loyola lead all of NCAA Division I in caused turnovers per game this season.
