DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. - Three Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse players will take the field on Saturday, June 11, as part of the 2011 North-South All-Star Game, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association has announced.
Attacker Caroline Hager and midfielders Cara Filippelli and Abby Rehfuss will represent the Greyhounds in the annual event. The three helped lead Loyola to a 17-3 overall record in 2011, a BIG EAST Conference Championship and a bid to the NCAA Quarterfinals. They all graduated from the University last month, as well.
Filippelli wrapped up an outstanding career by helping the Greyhounds lead NCAA Division I in caused turnovers per game for the third-straight season. She finished the year with 15 caused turnovers and culminated her career with 85. While Filippelli was an intergral part of a Loyola defense that ranked 11th nationally in scoring defense this season, she also scored 60 career goals and had 18 assists.
Hager started every game the last two seasons and was one of the team leaders in goals and assists. She had 14 assists as both a junior and a senior and added 15 goals in 2011 after scoring 16 in 2010. In her four-year career, Hager scored 35 goals and fed 34 assists for 69 total points.
Rehfuss earned IWLCA All-America Second Team honors earlier this week after she finished the year with 37 goals and 12 assists for 49 points. A consistent scorer throughout her career, Rehfuss finished 11th all-time at the school in points (177), tied for 11th in goals (127) and 12th in assists (50). She also is third all-time at Loyola with 153 draw controls.
The Greyhounds will join other NCAA Division I standouts at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. Loyola's players will compete for the North team in a game that starts at 12 noon.
