Baltimore, Md. - Junior Kate McHarg and senior Laura Carper were recognized by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Thursday as they each earned spots on the All-Mid-Atlantic Region team. McHarg was a first-team All-Mid-Atlantic selection while Carper was named to the second-team. Both are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced on May 30.
McHarg finished the season leading her team in scoring with 60 goals and nine assists. She also led the BIG EAST in goal scoring and currently leads the nation in goals per game. McHarg was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and to the first-team all-BIG EAST. She was honored as her team's MVP as well. McHarg also led the Greyhounds in draw controls this season with 38 and groundballs with 38. The team captain is just the third player in school history to score back-to-back 50+ goals in a season. This is her second career all-region honor.
Carper, a senior defender, was named all-region for the first time in her career. The team captain recorded 18 caused turnovers and 17 groundballs in her 15 games started this season. Over her four year career, Carper has appeared in 59 goals with 74 groundballs, 49 caused turnovers and seven draw controls.
If selected to the All-America teams, McHarg and Carper with be honored by the IWLCA and US Lacrosse at an awards banquet on June 10, 2006 in Baltimore, Md.
