BALTIMORE - Six Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse players are among the 108 players that have been invited to tryout for the 2015-16 U.S. Women's National Team June 12-14 at Johns Hopkins University.
Senior Taryn VanThof, a member of Team USA in 2014-15, will be joined by seniors Kara Burke, senior Annie Thomas, junior Maddy Lesher, sophomore Bailey Mathis and Meg Decker, a Class of 2011, at the tryouts.
Burke and Thomas will be among 33 attackers vying for a spot on the team, while VanThof, one of 10 returning midfielders, and Decker are two of 38 trying out for a midfield spot. On defense, Lesher and Mathis are two of 28.
In addition, Mathis is one of 20 sophomores to make the tryout list, while she's one of just three defenders invited.
After the three-day tryout, approximately 36-40 players will be selected to the 2015-16 U.S. Women's National Team, which will train in the lead-up to the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in Guildford, England. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S. as the team goes for a third consecutive and eighth overall world title.
