Syracuse, N.Y. - Loyola junior Kristen Stone was named to the BIG EAST all-conference first-team Thursday night while senior Kate McHarg and junior Maura Kenny were second-team selections. The BIG EAST honors are voted on by the leagues coaches and were announced Thursday evening at the DoubleTree Hotel in Syracuse, N.Y. The announcement came as part of the season-ending Awards Banquet held the night before the semifinal games of the BIG EAST Championship.
Stone, a defender, earns the honor for the first time in her career. She led the team in groundballs (36) and caused turnovers (24) this season. Stone has picked up 13 groundballs and caused eight turnovers in conference games. She currently ranks third among BIG EAST players in caused turnovers and fourth in groundballs.
McHarg earned her second BIG EAST honor after making the first team last season. She currently leads the Greyhounds in scoring with 32 goals and three assists while adding 24 draw controls, five caused turnovers and four groundballs. McHarg also leads the team in BIG EAST games with nine goals, one assist, 11 draw controls and one caused turnover.
Kenny picks up her second all-conference second-team selection. She has scored 20 goals and five assists this season with seven goals and one assist coming in conference games. Kenny has also recorded nine groundballs, nine caused turnovers and seven draw controls this season.
The Greyhounds wrap up their season next Saturday, May 5 when they host Cornell.
