Stone, Filippelli and Gavin Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Loyola senior defender Kristen Stone was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team at tonight's conference awards banquet in South Bend, Ind.

Senior midfielder Kate Filippelli and freshman midfielder Grace Gavin were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.

Stone's honor is the second in as many years for the senior from Buffalo, N.Y. She leads the Greyhounds in ground balls (38) and caused turnovers (26) this season. Her 2.53 ground balls per game top the BIG EAST, and she is second in the conference in the conference in caused turnovers per game.

Filippelli, who was an All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree in 2005 as a sophomore, logged career highs in several statistical categories this season.

One of the top two-way players in the conference, she is third on the team in goals scored (21), assists (12) and total points (33). Filippelli is second on the team in draw controls (38), ground balls (32) and caused turnovers (18).

Gavin made an immediate impact in her first season at Loyola. She leads the team in goals scored (37), total points (50) and draw controls (41).

Gavin also caused 11 turnovers and picked up 11 ground balls during her freshman campaign.

The Greyhounds wrap-up their season on Saturday, May 3, when they host Maryland at 4 p.m. on Diane Geppi-Aikens Field.
