PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse sophomore Marlee Paton has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday. In addition, senior defender Kellye Gallagher has been included on the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
The duo earned the conference honors after helping the 14th-ranked Greyhounds to back-to-back home wins over Rutgers, 15-11, and Villanova, 20-9.
Paton led the Greyhounds with 15 points this week, scoring nine goals and dishing out six assists. In the win over Rutgers, Paton tied a personal-best of nine points, by matching her career-high of five goals. She also had a game-high four assists in the game. She followed that up with a game-high six points in a win over Villanova on Sunday. Despite being face guarded, Paton scored four girls and had two helpers in the game.
For the season, Paton leads the Greyhounds with 65 points on 37 goals and 28 assists.
Gallagher led the Greyhounds with six ground balls, seven draw control and five caused turnovers this week. In a win over Rutgers, Gallagher won a career-best five draw controls and helped Loyola hold the Scarlet Knights to just two second-half goals, en route to a 15-11 win. She also caused one turnover and had one ground ball in the game.
Against Villanova, Gallagher scooped up five ground balls and caused four turnovers, while the defense held the Wildcats to just nine goals. For the season, she leads Loyola with 47 ground balls and 39 caused turnovers. She has also won 11 draw controls.
Loyola, 6-0 in the BIG EAST this season, will head to No. 2 Syracuse on Friday to play for a share of the regular season title. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
