Women's Lacrosse Visits Syracuse

Baltimore, Md. - Saturday, while the men's lacrosse team hosts Syracuse, the women's squad travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to visit the Orange at the Carrier Dome. Loyola, after a 3-6 start, looks to upend No. 17 Syracuse who are currently 6-2.

The Greyhounds have met the Orange just twice before Friday's contest. Loyola won both with a 14-10 win at the Carrier Dome in 2003 and a 14-11 victory at home in 2004.

Syracuse is currently led in scoring by senior Monica Joines with 23 goals and three assists. Caitlyn Dragon added 21 goals and eight assists to lead in point scoring. Meanwhile Meghan O'Connell, Melody Agnew and Jill Depetris all have added more than 10 goals this season.

At the defensive end Chelsea Strodel and Melissa Pearsall lead in caused turnovers with 11 each. Joines added 10 for second. On the draw Courtney Palladino is on top for the Orange with 15. SU has several players posting double digits in groundballs with Pearsall leading at 21.

For Loyola, senior Rachel Shuck is leading the pack in points with 10 goals and 20 assists to her credit. Leading in goals is sophomore Kate McHarg with 25 goals as well as an assist. Junior Sydney Greene follows with 19 goals while freshman Maura Kenny has tallied 15 goals and two assists to date. Rounding out the top five is freshman Kate Filippelli's 12 goals and two assists.

On the defensive end, Loyola is led by Laura Carper with 10 caused turnovers. Following her is senior Erin Cyphers with eight. On the draw, McHarg leads with 23. Filippelli also leads in groundballs with 26 while McHarg and Carper closely follow with 24 and 23 respectively.

The Greyhound keepers, Kim Lawton and Cindy Nicolaus currently combine for a 9.67 goals against average and have stopped 109 opponents shots this season for a saves percentage of .556.
